なぜ日本人は英語が苦手！？

日本では義務教育で6年間英語を学びます。
通常、言語を6年間学ぶということは、よっぽどサボらない限り、ある程度は話せるレベルになると思います。

それに、他のアジア圏の人々に比べ、日本人は大金をかけて英会話スクールなどに通う人多いし、海外旅行も良く行く国民脱兎思います。。。

それなのに、TOEICの結果もアジア21カ国中、いつも下位をさまよっています。

これは本当に『世界の7不思議』です！

皆さんはどう思います？？？


Why Japanese people are bad at English?

We study English at Junior high and high school for 6 years. Usually, learning language for 6 years is a long enogh to speak the basic conversation.

Also we spend alot of money for English school and we go travel overseas alot compare to the other Asian countries.

BUT the results of TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) is always one of the lowest score among the all 21 Asian countries.

It should be the one of the Seven Wonders of the World

japan is the 2nd biggest economy in the world, so i guess the average person never needs english

so you mean japanese people don't need to speak English???

I don't think so!!!

maybe we didn't need to speak English before, but from now on, we will definetely need to speak it.

I am afraid that Chinese and Korean will beat us soon.
Because young people in those countries have passion and ambisious, so in the 20 years those countries will be very big and powerful.

I don't think Enlgish is the best language or anything, but since it's the easiest way to communicate with majority of people in the world, we(japanese) have to be able to speak it!!!

Probably because once a Japanese learns a little bit of anything they think they are smarter than everyone else and can do it better. Stupid.

I agree that its a very bad idea to ignore English. It's THE language of the internet now. There are clones for popular sites in other languages, but the fact is that a HUGE majority of the internet is English.

Now Japan probably has existed for so long as an insular country, with only some of the top business people needing English, and providing the country with all its wealth - which enables the insularity which stops the rest of the population bothering. But as the global economy shifts power from big corporations to smaller businesses, and as the world globalises, Japan could get pipped at the post by a fast growing Korea and China.

I think its time for them to change their opinion of foreigners and English ASAP. Its not "better", its just more useful.

Believe it or not,we're doing much better than befofre.

Some public school has started to put more time and effort to gain the ability to speak english and learn how to communicate with each other. Also, there's a class for presentaion and discussion as well, which is very good practice for Japanese students since they only had a chance to learn writing/reading english before.

We're still not quite there yet but we're sure making progress slowly, I think.

The methods traditionally used to teach students English in Japan are ludicrous (silly) and not useful for teaching people to use a language naturally.

However, "I very well grammar know" helps one pass his/her college entrance examination.
