Some clubs don't accept foreigners in tokyo!? 東京のクラブは外国人お断り?
Hey,

I want to hear your opinion!!!

When I went to a big club in Tokyo the other night with my BF, my BF couldn't get in because of foreigner.

the staff said 'すみません。外国人は入れません。'

I got mad, but he said it's a rule.

so we went to some other club where foreigners can get in normally.

I was surprised because it's a racial discrimination!
i didn't know we have that in japan still! and especially in international city, TOKYO!!!

Have you had this kind of experience???

I've heard my friends couldn't get into Yakiniku restaurant in Osaka.
the staff said 'it's full, you can't come.' but the restaurant wasn't full.
this story makes me sad.

Yeah, it does happen sometimes. I think that being refused entry is more common in Tokyo than in Osaka.

It's more common for the clubs to have special strict rules for gaijin but not for Japanese. For example, at Sam and Dave Shinsaibashi gaijin need to make a "membership card" with their photo on it. Japanese people don't need to make one. At Underlounge they sometimes let all the Japanese people in but make gaijin write down all the information from the gaikokujin touroku shomeishou before they can enter. Some clubs in Tokyo let gaijin come in only if they come with Japanese friends. A club in Fukuoka counted how many gaijin were inside, and then stopped letting gaijin come in. They had a maximum number of gaijin customers. Maybe there have been fights at these clubs, but I've seen Japanese people get into fights at clubs but I've never heard of special rules for Japanese.

Sometimes some shops and restaurants have signs with the rules only in English, not Japanese. An izakaya had a sign that said "Foreigners must be quiet". Japanese people don't have to be quiet? Junkudo bookstore has a cafe, and in the cafe there's a sign saying "Don't read books that you haven't paid for" but only in English. In my apartment building there are posters with emergency information (for fire or earthquake) written only in Japanese, but there are signs like "Don't litter" and "Don't feed the stray cats" written only in English. This hurts my feelings because I see Japanese people doing the same things, but people think gaijin are causing the problems.

Maybe these are small things, but we experience things like this everyday and it makes many of us feel like Japan can never be our home.

Basically what we have to do is to simply not stand for this bullshit. If some dickhead bouncer doesnt let you in, demand that you see his boss. If that is not sufficient, go to Japan Times and tell them about it. Once the club sees their name being hauled like an arsehole on acid, they wont do it again. And you can also degrade them all over the internet.

This should stop this one rule for foreigners and another for Japanese bullshit.

sorry if I offended people with my last rant, but it realy is frustrating here when we as foreigners have to put up with it, especially with the Japanese do not. Japan must learn that if it wants to treated fairly in the international world, then it must treat foreigners on its shores much better.

I think japan should be more open for foreigners and be more international.

but japanese people in japan care!?
NO!
foreigners in japancare care.

I think you guys should take action! Do somthing!

If this racial discrimination happens to me in oversea where I think i want to live for long time, i do somthing to change it!

what do you think????

yeh that would be nice ...some foreigners here actually showing balls for once to get the job done. And believe me they are. THEY ARE FILTERING REPORTS OF THIS CONDUCT TO FRIENDS AND RELATIVES AT HOME. This in turn makes people think twice about coming here.

People also need to get onto websites like this and expose these companies and people that discriminate.

And the Japanese also have to be educated on other cultures. FOR EXAMPLE THEY CANT JUST WALK UP TO FOREIGNERS IN CLUBS AND TOUCH THEM.

I get this all the time in Sam and Dave as I am 202 cm tall. IF JAPANESE WANT TO TOUCH US, THEN THEY CAN ASK FIRST. I really dont like some Japanese guy trying to touch my dick for no reason.

Please keep in mind that foreigners also get perks from certain clubs that japanese people don't, such as reduced or free admission. isn't that discrimination also?

I suppose it is, but it's purpose is inclusive rather than exclusive so I don't think it's quite the same. I mean that those special prices are meant to attract a certain target clientele and not meant to keep others out. Ladies night with free admission for women is the same kind of thing, and I've never thought of that as discriminatory. The man are usually happy that there are loads of women in the club. Similarly, Japanese customers who specifically want to meet gaijin are happy when there are lots of gaijin at the club or party or whatever.

But I'd gladly give up those very minor perks if it would also help me get rid of the annoyance of not being trusted by Japanese.
