Re: a question for Americans working in Japan
If you work in Japan you have to report your foreign earnings (money you make in Japan) to the IRS. The big question to ask is do you make more or less than the foreign earned income exclusion? Last time I filed it was something like $80,000/yr. So if your salary is less than that, you can file and you shouldn't have to pay any extra taxes to the USA. Look into it...QUICKLY, because the filing deadline is just around the corner.

But its pretty much your decision. Your company is Japanese, right? So they didn't send the info to the IRS. The only proof of salary are your salary slips, and they are probably in Japanese and nobody from IRS would accept them since they aren't W2's or 1099's.

If you can put your income down, I think its better because having a bunch of zeros on your tax form might make the IRS suspicious.
