About "Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land"...
Among the many things the Iraq War and so-called war on terror have done is reopen scrutiny of how the U.S. subsidizes the Israeli war machine, and bring a fuller understanding of Israel's hegemony in the Middle East. A large factor determining what Americans -- and others worldwide -- know and don't know about these issues is the role of U.S. media coverage, considered by many to be distorted and silent on anything considered pro-Palestinian.
Compared to international media, U.S. media have much more allied themselves with Israeli government PR and U.S. government interests such as oil and the desire for a military foothold in the region. This biased view has prevented Americans and non-Americans alike from knowing the full story of Israeli occupation of the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem -- the longest military occupation in modern history. Also remaining hidden are the far-reaching effects of the occupation on both the Palestinian and Israeli people.
The pro-Israeli slant of American foreign policy can't happen without a complicit media too afraid to ask tough questions and fully examine the issues, which includes the Palestinians, the original inhabitants of the region. Through scholars, media critics, peace activists, religious figures and Middle East experts, this film analyzes and explains how the Israeli-Palestinian conflict remains hidden to most Americans, and explores the relationship between media & politics, and the ethics and very role of journalism. What's left out of a news story is just as important as what's put in. This film makes a bold attempt to shed some light on how this is playing out in our post-9/11 world.
