Amnesty Int'l Write for Rights, Dec.10
Date 2006/12/2 14:09:45 | Topic: Announcements
| Sunday, December 10 is International Human Rights Day, and your help is requested, to write letters calling attention to human rights violations around the globe.
"Write for Rights" is an annual international write-a-thon and Amnesty International's most exciting event of the year. To commemorate the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (http://www.unhchr.ch/udhr/), thousands of people around the world will be writing short, personal letters that call attention to the plight of those suffering human rights violations somewhere on earth. Your 'call for action' letters will then be sent to the appropriate authorities in the country where there is a concern.
WHEN: Sunday, December 10, 3 to 8 p.m. (doors open at 2 p.m.) *** One or more films will also be screened, including the acclaimed 2006 short documentary, "Outlawed: Extraordinary Rendition, Torture and Disappearances in the 'War on Terror' ". (http://tinyurl.com/hanpw)

And... the Blarney Stone is also offering liquid motivation by offering 100 yen off food and drinks for letter writers! Join us for this fun, worthwhile effort and be part of a worldwide challenge!
(Also available are letters in English and Japanese to educators and teachers asking for their and their students' assistance in our efforts this day. Please contact Kothai if you would like one or both of these letters.)
This is the 3rd annual "Write for Rights" event hosted by the Blarney Stone. We hope that you'll be able to join us to help them and Amnesty Int'l bring together as many people we can to write as many letters as possible, and to help spread knowledge & understanding of human rights around the world.
Drop by and take a few minutes to write a short letter (or two, or three!). Stay as long as you like, write some letters, watch the films and learn more about both Amnesty's efforts around the globe and true democratic ideals in action!
Hope to see you there!
