Q1. What is your name?
A. Jamie, J, Jimbob, Monkeyboy.
Q2. Where are you originally from?
A. Bristol, in the South
West of England. Home to farmer accents, Wallace and Gromit,
inbreeding, cider, massive attack, Isambard Kingdom Brunel
and a bloody hand in the slave trade of the British Empire...
Q3. How long have you been in Japan?
A. 7 months, but sometimes
it feels like longer, sometimes it feels like I arrived yesterday...
Q4. What do you do?
A. I do a lot of things
but the thing I get paid to do is teach English to uninterested
Junior high school kids in a small town called Oji, also occasionally
get to visit sho gakku and kindergartens where the kids are
a bit more genki and I sometimes feel a little bit like a
clown from another planet....
Q5. Where is your favorite restaurant
or bar?
A. Mama's in Pai, North-West
Thailand for good Thai home cooking. Favourite bar is possibly
Rock Rock in Merika Mura or the Old Duke in Bristol, England.
Also spend a fair amount of time at Tins Hall in Tennoji.
Q6. Where is your recommendatory
spot for a trip?
A. Sado gashima was fun
for the Taiko festival in the Summer, get back in touch with
those primal drumming instincts that have laid dormant for
centuries…Kurashiki, in okayama, is also beautiful, a picturesque
willow tree lined canal town. Further afield I would recommend
Nepal to anyone, trekking in the Himalaya brings home how
insignificant we really are.
Q7. What are you into at the moment?
A. Recently went Snowboarding
for the first time, despite almost ending up in the local
hospital it was superb fun. Getting back into my guitar playing
and singing, really want to join a Rock N Roll band in Japan.
Also trying to learn as much about Japan as I can.
Q8. What do you want to do in Japan?
A. My main ambition is to
take part in Takeshis castle but think it ended years ago,
so any endurance type gameshow will do. Also really want to
kancho a sumo wrestler.
Q9. What do you think of Japan?
A. I think it is a wonderful country with
a wonderful colourful history, a unique culture, and people
that amaze me, but it is not without its problems, theres
a lot of people wanting to express themselves more freely…soon
their time will come...
Q10. What is your funniest moment
/ lost in translation moment in Japan?
A. One morning in Osaka
I was following an obviously drunk salary man up the escalators
in Umeda when he proceeded to vomit violently on the lady
in front of him. He pretented nothing had happened and when
he got to the top of the stairs vomited once again but this
time his false teeth fell onto the floor in front of him,
again acting as if this was normal, he picked them out of
his vomit and popped them back into his mouth and staggered
off. Classic stuff....
Q11. What are your goals for 2006?
A. Save some cash, make
some new friends, form a Japanese/gaijin Rock N Roll Band,
be good, be free...

A. This week, oji Chu gakku,
Nara.
Q13. Message to WhyNot!? users!
A. Keep a clear head and
always carrry a lightbulb.
