Face of the Month

Q1. What is your name?

My name is Reid Aune.

Q2. Where are you originally from?

I'm from a town called Nanaimo, which is on Vancouver Island on the west coast of Canada.

Q3. How lon you been in Japan?

In July it will be seven years.

Q4. What are you into at the moment?

Until quite recently I was a salary man so I spent most of my time either working in front of a computer or going somewhere on a train. Therefore, I got a little out of shape. Now I'm having fun getting into the gym, running and even a little boxing.

Q5. What do you do in Japan?

I own a bar called BRIDGES in Sakaisuji-Honmachi.

Q6. Tell me more about it

BRIDGES is a trendy yet relaxed and friendly bar with some great food too. Drinks are quite cheap (400 yen draft beers for example). And our are pizzas are reasonably priced and cooked in an authentic brick oven. Just for your information, that means they taste awesome.

Q7. Any funny/horrible stories while you are in Japan?

When I had recently arrived in Japan I went surfing in Shizuoka. After a few hours I was tired so I rested by sitting on the board with my legs dangling in the water. Suddenly someone yelled "sa-me". I knew I had heard that word before but couldn't remember what it meant. A few minutes later, as I saw everyone else getting out of the water and I leisurely sat out on the water I remembered that it meant shark. Lesson of the story: you will be better connected to the local community, will build stronger relationships and will just know what is happening better if you learn the language of the country in which you are living.

Q8. What is your dream?

My dream is to learn a few more languages and take a long trip around the entire world.

Q9. What is your favorite Japanese proverb?

十人十色 Everyone is different. Don't worry if what you are doing is different than what everyone else is doing. Follow your own path.

Q10. Message to WhyNot!? users!

Everyone, I hope you are having a great time as much as possible. Don't waste time doing things that you don't like. If you need a place to relax and have some fun come and meet me at BRIDGES and can have a great time together.
